That is a lot of dogs and my heart goes out to all who have an ill companion. This needs to be stopped.
NBC ?had this story*-
http://vitals.nbcnews.com/... yesterday and a comment on the chicken inspection piece here by jakewaters made me think this needs to be spread around some more. The treats are from China and while the FDA claims the treats are safe- sort of.
The tests have not demonstrated significant toxicants.I have no idea what that statement means. I have no idea what the FDA considers significant in amounts or what toxins are showing. I may be paranoid, cynical, or not trusting but that statement is ?a red flag for me.
Some congress men, including Sen. Brown are getting involved-

Maybe a call or email to your congress member if you can. It cant hurt.
There is a petition circulating-

UPDATE-thanks frugalgranny- The treats seem to have one thing in common -they are made in China. Many consumers are looking at the place of manufacturing to determine if the product is safe. However, many treats don't have where they were manufactured. Some think this is because the dog food companies don't want American consumers to know they are made in China. So I think reading the package is a good place to start. Jerky treats are often mentioned, but as I wrote below I question if it is just a jerky problem.
UPDATE2-This article from the FDA-
http://www.fda.gov/... seemingly putts the blame on jerky treats
The FDA is reminding pet owners that jerky pet treats are not necessary for pets to have a fully balanced dietBut later in the article they mention some cats are becoming ill. How many cats eat jerky? ?I think the whole thing stinks.
I love dogs and while I am not taking chances with mine, we need to do more. We need to help stop these treats from being on the shelf.
No one should be in the place where they have to watch their beloved dog suffering. My heart and thought are with jakewaters and the bassett Leo, and all those who have a companion ill.
thanks.
