We've seen some relatively sparse desktops in recent weeks, but this week's featured desktop, a Ubuntu system from reader technofhile, includes a wealth of useful information at the bottom of the screen, without getting in the way of the stylized and clean wallpaper.
Want the same look for your linux system? It doesn't have to be Ubuntu?here's what you'll need:
That's all you'll need. Technofhile does note: "You could mention in your post that since this xfce is used as a Desktop, Thunar (the File manager) mounts drives as /media/username/drive instead of /media/drive as in Nautilus (Ubuntu's File manager). Thus users may have to change path in the second conky file." Keep that in mind if you plan to use the configs yourself. If you run into problems though, you can always head over to the original thread in our #featured-desktop forum to ask your questions as well.
Do you have a good-looking, functional desktop that you want to see featured here? Submit it?along with where you got the wallpaper, skins, and geeklets?to us for review. We have two different ways you can share it with us:
Linux, Mac, Windows, all are welcome. Whatever you choose to use, include a description of how you made your desktop when you send it in. Without that, we can't tell others how to make it for themselves so they can be featured too!
